FOCUS ON WELLBEING IN A CHALLENGING PROFESSION

FOCUS ON WELLBEING IN
A CHALLENGING PROFESSION

The world of veterinary medicine is extremely rewarding and fulfilling. Veterinarians, vet nurses and technicians are usually highly driven individuals fuelled by a great passion for animals and nothing is more gratifying for them than bringing back to health our furry life companions.

However, it is also now widely recognised that this same world is one of the most stressful working environments. This is due to the disparity between the prospects and hopes of young graduates and a harsher reality made of long hours, poor recognition and respect of the veterinarians’ work and value, difficult interactions with owners and occasional ethically challenging decision on treatments and euthanasia just to name a few.

This is why looking after ourselves and our physical and mental wellbeing is the single most important step to take to be an accomplished veterinarian/ nurse/ technician while maintaining a life-work balance and remaining a happy, fulfilled human being.
